Alder Creek Kayak and Canoe has been teaching paddling skills on the Columbia River since 1985, and their introductory kayak class is the best starting point for anyone new to the sport in the Portland metro area. Students learn basic forward strokes, turning techniques, wet exits, and assisted rescues in a protected flatwater environment near the Jantzen Beach location. All equipment including kayak, paddle, and safety gear is provided so you only need to bring clothes you can get wet.
