Bookbinding I: Five-Session Course

About this class

A five-session evening course covering the fundamental techniques of Western bookbinding, including pamphlet stitch, case binding, and Coptic stitch, with students learning to fold signatures, sew book blocks, and construct hardcover bindings from scratch using archival materials. By the end of the course each student has produced several fully finished bound books using professional tools in the Center's well-equipped studio. The Center for Book Arts has been the primary bookbinding resource in New York City since 1974.
