About this class
This class teaches djembe technique and traditional West African rhythmic patterns in a group ensemble format, with emphasis on listening, locking in with other drummers, and understanding the cultural context behind each rhythm. The instructor leads participants through call-and-response patterns and ensemble arrangements drawn from Guinean, Senegalese, and Malian traditions. Drums are available to borrow during class, and students are welcome to bring their own instrument.
