Spanish Village Art Center in Balboa Park is a historic complex of 36 studios occupied by working artists who teach public classes in oil painting, watercolor, ceramics, bronze clay, Chinese brush painting, and more. The center has operated since 1937, and classes are taught directly by the artists in residence, giving students access to craft knowledge and studio culture that is rare in a city setting. The outdoor studio environment, surrounded by gardens and Balboa Park, makes every visit feel like an artist retreat.
