What is Capoeira? Capoeira is a 400+ year old Afro-Brazilian art form that is a combination of martial arts, strategy, dance, acrobatics and music. The “game” of capoeira is played between two people within the roda (circle). In the circle, two players exchange both offensive and defensive movements. The broader practice of capoeira also includes traditional cultural dances like maculele stick dance, jongo, and samba de roda. Capoeira is accompanied by live music and singing which is done in a fun call-and-response fashion. As a student you will learn different aspects and styles of capoeira.
