Natural Dyeing Workshop

Fiber Works MPLS in Minneapolis offers natural dyeing workshops where participants learn to extract color from plant sources - onion skins, black walnut, indigo - and apply them to natural fiber textiles using mordants that fix the dye permanently. Students leave the class with an understanding of why different plants produce different colors, how mordants like alum and iron shift those colors, and how to apply this knowledge to their own textile projects at home. Each participant dyes several small fiber samples to take home as a reference.
