This class introduces the rich tradition of etching and intaglio printmaking, teaching students to incise or apply acid to a metal plate and then pull ink from the recessed lines onto dampened paper. Students create their own plates using both drawn marks and acid-etched textures, building toward a small finished edition by the end of the session. The studio at Washington Printmakers Gallery is equipped with professional etching presses and a full range of inks and grounds.
