The hand-building ceramics workshop at Columbia Heights Ceramics introduces students to slab construction, coil building, and pinch pot techniques as accessible alternatives to the wheel for making functional pottery and sculptural forms. The instructor walks through each technique with a demonstration piece before students work through their own projects, with help available throughout for assembly, surface decoration, and texture. Students leave with two or three greenware pieces ready to be bisque fired and glazed in a follow-up session.
