Students learn to gather molten glass from the furnace, work it on the marver, and shape it using jacks, paddles, and breath pressure while the hot shop instructor provides constant coaching and safety guidance from start to finish. Every participant makes at least one finished glass object, typically a cup, ornament, or small sculptural piece, that they can take home after it has annealed and cooled in the studio's oven overnight. The introduction covers the basic physics of glass behavior at high temperature and the color-introduction techniques that allow artists to produce the vivid patterns seen in the studio's gallery work.
