Lake Merritt Boating Center offers stand-up paddleboard lessons on one of Oakland's most iconic urban lakes, teaching participants how to balance, paddle, and turn a SUP board in a no-current, no-wave environment ideal for first-timers. Instructors provide all equipment and walk students through getting on the board from the water and finding a stable stance before beginning the paddling technique portion of the lesson. It is one of the most relaxed and accessible ways to try SUP anywhere in the Bay Area.
