Kapowui Surf and Skate School at Pacific Coast Highway and the Santa Monica Pier area runs beginner surf lessons with all boards, wetsuits, and equipment provided, covering ocean safety, paddling technique, and the pop-up sequence on a soft-top board before heading into the water. Instructors maintain a small student-to-instructor ratio so each person gets personal feedback on their paddling and timing. Lessons run year-round and the Santa Monica beach break is well suited for first-time surfers.
