First Stand-Up Workshop

About this class

You don't need to be funny to take this class, but you will be by the end. Stand-up comedy is a craft: there's a structure to jokes (premise, misdirection, punchline), a way to find material in your own life, and specific techniques (the act-out, the callback, the rule of three) that make routines land. In this two-hour workshop, your instructor breaks down the architecture of comedy, helps you develop a 60-second bit from scratch using your own life experience, and workshops it in front of the group. Some people discover they've been suppressing a real talent for this. You don't have to perform, but most people want to.
