About this class
Ikebana (the Japanese art of floral arrangement) is governed by three main lines (heaven, earth, and human) that represent balance, harmony, and the relationship between nature and humanity. Unlike Western arrangement, ikebana uses negative space as deliberately as it uses flowers: what is absent matters as much as what is present. In this two-hour workshop taught by a certified instructor, you'll learn the Sogetsu school approach to ikebana: a contemporary style that works with any plant material and in any container. You'll arrange three studies with increasing complexity, working with seasonal branches, flowers, and foliage. Take your final arrangement home. All flowers, branches, kenzan frogs, and vessels provided.
