About this class

Paper marbling is one of the oldest surface decoration techniques in the world. you've seen it on the endpapers of antique books. In this full-day workshop (six hours with a break) you'll learn the full process from scratch: preparing carrageenan size (the viscous liquid that holds the paint on the surface), thinning acrylic paints with ox gall to the exact consistency that spreads without sinking, dropping colors in patterns, manipulating them with combs and styluses, and laying the paper on the surface to lift the pattern. Every pull produces a unique image. You'll make 15–20 marbled sheets in multiple colorways and leave with an understanding of the chemistry behind why the process works. All materials, paints, and paper provided.
